No More Starving Artists?
Unfortunately I don't have time to write much this week, but I did stumble across one of the more interesting ideas I've heard about in a while, which I thought was worth passing on. It discusses a new way of mitigating risk for artists via something like a pension fund. Promising young artists agree to contribute a certain number of their works to a trust, and those works are sold over time providing them savings. Those artists that make it big end up subsidizing those who don't, but since all go into the deal with roughly equal promise and risk it's ultimately to everyone's benefit.
The implications of this are potentially big, because this doesn't just have to apply to painters. This could apply to writers, software producers, independent film makers, or anybody with a creative ability and passion. Perhaps with the development of things like this, more people will feel able to follow their dreams.
